Hello and welcome to this edition of the Living Your Design Newsletter.
The theme for this month's newsletter is the Heart Center. This center is so powerful and should not be underestimated. It's the center of the tribal circuitry which includes business and community. You will find several articles from different points of view about the Heart Center in this issue.
Rather than writing my usual article I wanted to share something with you. Just last week my husband and I attended a seminar. It's the first seminar that the two of us have attended since we met and the first one I can remember attending in years (other than Human Design classes).
This was the Venus Sequence seminar taught by Richard Rudd from the UK (web site: http://www.genekeys.co.uk). I've been following Richard's writings for many years now. He has made some very rich contributions to the Human Design body of work we all love.
He wrote the Living Your Design book and also the Circuitry book and many articles. These books are very popular sellers and if you don't have them in your library you should (order books: http://www.humandesigncommunity.com/books.html)!
The Venus Sequence is a creation of Richard's that uncovers our hidden wound passed down our ancestral line. It's a very powerful and precise tool which shows us not only our wound but also our gifts to ourselves and the world.
I'm a natural skeptic and need to experience something before I can embrace it. The experiences I've had since the seminar last week are, I dare say, the most profound I have every had. The wounds that were locked inside of me are now being shown to me and I can feel the healing taking place each day since my understanding of my Venus Sequence.
The Venus Sequence is a powerful tool that reveals you to yourself in a new way.
Susan Wight, a Human Design Community Analyst, is also a Venus Sequence Practitioner. I believe she is the only one in the United States. For those of you who do not know Susan, she is a very special person. I highly recommend you book a Venus Sequence reading with Susan and experience this amazing gift. Call the office to book your session at 619-557-2700. We will be announcing some VS classes in the near future as well.
Enjoy the newsletter.

Generators with a defined ego center find themselves in great demand. It’s easy to recognize the font of energy from the Sacral mixed with the drive and staying power of the ego center. The power behind this seemingly small motor is extraordinary with its ability to push on through. A defined ego being is able to make and keep their promises effortlessly. They have an ability to keep on keeping on long after others have given up. The two centers combined are sure-fire in being selected for the All-Star team in any sport or endeavor.
I remember a time before Design (or BHD!), when I was recognized for my energy (defined Sacral, Ego and G centers) and abilities to carry through for a high profile business consulting project. When I was asked to lead this business venture I sensed that something did not feel right. I allowed my mind to convince me this affiliation was exactly what my career needed. Off I went researching, organizing, planning and executing my approach. Let’s just say, things did not work out. This experience turned out to be the worst ‘mistake’ in my professional life. Had I known about strategy and authority I would have not engaged. I took the lesson and understanding that even though I can does not mean that it is the correct use of my energy.
Looking from the window of a defined Ego Center, our abilities to carry on and out are straightforward and uncomplicated. We just do what is needed without feeling superior or expecting a special compensation. What I have found on many occasions, when relating with undefined ego beings, their conditioning causes them to compete or attempt to play one-upmanship. Understand the mechanics of the ego center is a very liberating experience and these types of encounters are simply observed and let go. It is the not-Self of the undefined ego that sparks the need to compete.
Undefined Ego beings get their fair share of a bad rap. Their conditioning can carry things like financial insecurities, self-esteem and self-worth issues, unreliability, over promising, under deliver and trying to prove themselves. They can be creative, talented wonderful people with the best of intentions but aren’t always able to follow through on their promises. This can leave them with a need to shrivel like a turtle shrinking into its shell for comfort and protection.
There is wisdom to be captured from the bumps and scratches of this ego driven society. Look where you can slow down and give yourself time to examine your options. Time lines and demands can be managed by following your strategy. Notice if you are trying to please others yet creating more stress for yourself.
Both Superman and Clark Kent were very likable and worthy, each having their own reason for being and unique strategy. Check in with your Sacral Generators, are you following yours?

Heart/Ego Center – May 2006 Newsletter by Susan Wight
35% have this center defined
65% have it open or undefined
The Heart Center is very important to understand in terms of one’s health. Biologically, Human Design teaches us that the Heart/Ego Center correlates to the heart muscle, the gall bladder, the thymus gland and T-cells, and the stomach.
This center has a massive biological role.
There are only four gates listed below in the Heart/Ego center, nonetheless, this center is a very powerful and complex center.
Gate 21 – relates to the heart muscle. The function of the heart is to pump blood around the body. The heart's rhythmic contractions occur spontaneously, although the frequency or heart rate can be changed by nervous or hormonal influences such as exercise or the perception of danger. The mantra of the 21st gate is to be in control. If 21st gate people can't control their lives then on a very basic level they lose control over how their heart pumps, which obviously can cause major problems. If people with the 21st gate are in control of what they eat, what they wear and where they live, they keep their heart healthy.
Gate 26 – relates to the thymus gland, which belongs to the endocrine system and is located in the upper anterior portion of the chest cavity. The thymus plays an important role in the development of the immune system in early life, and its cells also form a part of the body's immune system. They are the famous T cells. This gland creates a direct connection between the Ego and the Splenic system, both via the Channel of the Transmitter (26-44) and biologically, and is one of the most essential health channels.
Gate 51 – is associated with the gallbladder, a pear-shaped organ that stores bile (or "gall") until the body needs it for digestion. The bile is released when food containing fat enters the digestive tract. This is the gate of shock because it is the gall of a fool to leap into the void. The 51 is part of the only non-tribal channel in the ego center - the Channel of Initiation (51-25). It is the way in which the ego empowers the Universal Love of the 25th gate. Without Universal Love, the heart turns to stone (gall bladder stones).
Gate 40 – is related to the stomach. The main job of the stomach is to break down large food molecules into smaller ones, so that they can be absorbed into the blood more easily. The 40th gate is part of the Channel of Community. This is where potlucks and community fundraiser's happen. It is all about food and making sure the tribe has enough of it. Like all ego gates, it is also about the bargain and entering into bargains correctly.
These organs and endocrines can suffer when we do not follow our Authority and Strategy. As you can see, we could go much deeper into the understanding of the biological role of the Heart/Ego Center. But if you follow your Strategy and Authority, it is not necessary. If a person with the 21st gate, for example, in the Heart/Ego Center gives themselves permission to be in control of where they live, what they eat, and what they wear, they will keep their heart healthy. If they listen to their Inner Authority about what to eat, where to live, and what to wear, they are living their design correctly.
Following your Inner Authority and Strategy keeps you healthy. Following your Inner Authority and Strategy keeps it simple.
The mind cannot make these decisions correctly for you. Listen to your body rather than your mind. Your body will only breathe and operate correctly when you trust what it tells you.
The Heart/Ego Center is an energy system. It’s a motor. When you follow your Strategy and Authority, you are using energy correctly and this keeps you healthy.
The Heart/Ego Center is also one of three directional centers. As a directional center, it alone is responsible for the creation of all our societies and cultures. It is a center to honor and use its energy correctly by following your Authority and Strategy.

It seems appropriate that we look at the Heart Center, the Ego Center under this Taurus Moon Cycle. In astrology, this cycle is about balancing money and material issues and certainly the tribe is all about these aspects with the Heart Center being the hub, so to speak. For those of us who are in the process of waking up, we are certainly trying to balance the spiritual with the mundane with the heart center definitely being a crucial component that we are working with to find balance within this human experience.
While we are all familiar with the common aspects or keynotes of the heart center - to improve and to prove oneself and about making promises or not, in my investigation I found another interesting view of the binary that seemed to be revealed within the 4 Gates of the Heart Center. On the ‘this’, the heart has an aspect of potentiality (51st gate – to test oneself, to compete) and power (21st gate – to dominate and control) and the ‘that’ aspects of balance (40th gate – to be alone/oneself within the group/tribe) and efficiency (26th gate – maximum reward for minimum output). Elements of progress and then temperance, so as not to extend too far. The yin and the yang, to offer support/be supported or not, depending on one’s authority and relationship within the tribe/organization/family. While the pendulum has swung hard towards the ‘this’ aspect we know so well - the ‘Nike’ mantra of ‘Just Do It’ at the expense of our health is now swinging back to the ‘that’ to balance itself. We certainly have experienced the destructive elements of the one sidedness of this energy.
Fortunately we have the knowledge of Human Design to assist us by providing the map to know where the line is of what is consistent and what is inconsistent within us and the knowledge that explains what’s going on. While knowledge doesn’t necessarily change anything in itself, the education can give us a ‘cheat sheet’ of what’s going on in the experience/experiment to notice the difference and to (hopefully) become wiser along the journey. So what is this wisdom for the open ego/heart center? To experience the range of promises kept and potential of willpower in it’s most optimal use, as a beneficiary of, not the one providing it. Remember, the open centers are receivers and amplifiers of the energy, not the source thereof.
While we often reference the spleen as the center of well being, the well being of the heart center is of vital importance with it’s connection to the critical organs of the body all supported by the Heart Center (21/Heart, 51/Gall Bladder, 40/Stomach and 26/Thymus Gland.) For the open sacral beings, not knowing when enough is enough, whether you have an open ego where you’re trying to prove, to be deemed worthy of the recognition, or a defined heart center where you’re pushing your way thru when there’s no energy (sacral) to do it, the result is the same – damage to the form.
The on going strategy for health and well being in all aspects is in the mantra to trust in your nature, your unique design to provide all the energy you need to fulfill your purpose. When you are being yourself, operating correctly, there is nothing to prove. Everything that’s needed is already within you. So lets upgrade the Nike slogan… Follow Our Strategy, Honor Our Authority and Love Ourselves - if we ‘just do that’, we’ll be just fine.

Thank you so much for recommending the Tao Oracle on your website! In my study of Human Design, this divination pack is helping me tremendously. Trying to wrap my mind around the Rave IChing has been very challenging, so having the gorgeous illustrations and very clear, well-written descriptions and key words has really helped me to begin to grasp the meanings of the hexagrams.
The line that I just read, from Hexagram 50 "The Cauldron" communicates the depth of this wonderful tool:
"Finally, you can appreciate the unique individual you are. Offering that uniqueness to others is the way to return something, in gratitude, to Existence. The more you give, the more you will continue to be rejuvenated. Your life can become your art, your prayer, your meditation. In its wisdom and abundance, Tao gently guides us to follow its course, and when we do, it gives back a thousand fold."
This, to me, speaks of the heart of what the Human Design system is...a way to know oneself and tap into our greatest gift, our self.
